Jane's Birth Story!

Well I thought I'd better get started on blogging about Jane's birth story before things got too busy... :)

From my very first OB appointment, my doctor told me I could be induced at 39 weeks. I made the decision early on that I wanted to be. 4 weeks before I was to be 39 weeks, we scheduled my induction. We scheduled it early to make sure I was the first on the list. My doctor told me that medical inductions were over elective inductions so don't get disappointed if I didn't get in until later that day. I made sure I didn't get my hopes up and expected she wouldn't be here till the day after. I was to call bright and early in the morning, 5:30 am. I didn't sleep AT.ALL. that night because I was so excited. It was like Christmas. Well, I called and they told me they were sooo busy the night before and to expect a call between 8 and 9am. Or I could call and get an update whenever I wanted. I waited until 8:15 and called to get my update. The nurse told me there was one medical induction before me. She said to expect a call back around noon. It seriously was the longest morning of my life! At 11:30, I got a call telling me to be there by 12:30. We had everything packed and literally were out the door and driving off to our new adventure within 30 seconds of the phone call. We stopped and got lunch and headed to the hospital! I got all checked in and by 1:15, I was on pitocin and was ready to go!

I was only dilated to 1 centimeter and still high so my nurse told me to expect a 12+ hour labor... At 3:45, I was a 2. So my nurse let my doctor know and my doctor said she would come in after her office hours and break my water. My contractions didn't really hurt but my nurse said once my water was broke my contractions would get stronger. So I decided to get an epidural before they got too bad. At 4:45, I got the epidural and at 5:20, I was dilated to a 3 and my doctor broke my water. Around 6:30, my nurse checked me again and I was at a 4 and 80% effaced. At 7:45, I was still a 4 but 100% effaced. She told me not to get discouraged and hopefully I would be a 6 the next time she checked. I joked and said, hopefully I'm a 10! I was going to have Isaac wait another hour before he went and put Jett to bed but I told him to just go now (at 7:45). My mother-in-law, Macae, came out to help out with Jett for the few days while we were in the hospital. She was a huge help! I wanted Isaac just to show her the routine and then he was going to come back. While Isaac was gone, I had a little bit of difficulty breathing, almost like I was trying to catch my breath. I was going to let my nurse know, but I had it under control after a few minutes. Isaac walked back into the room at 8:50 and my nurse came in to check me shortly after. Isaac was getting things ready so he could lay down to go to sleep, asking for blankets. My nurse then checked me and said, "ummmm, you're ready to deliver!" She rushed out of the room and said, "Help! She's ready to deliver! The baby is crowning right now." About 5 or 6 other nurses rushed in with different equipment. I was shaking so bad! It happened so fast. I didn't think I was going to deliver until 1 or 2 in the morning. She called my doctor and asked how fast she could get here. It was all so crazy. I kept laughing because I didn't know what else to do. My nurse told me to stop because the baby was coming out! My doctor walked in about 10-15 minutes later and said, "I wasn't expecting to deliver your baby til midnight!" My doctor got all her gear on. I pushed through two contractions, about 1 minute total and our sweet baby girl was here at 9:18pm! I ended up not tearing again. Which is nice! Easier and faster recovery time. My doctor said, "Now that's how you have a baby!" Jane weighed 7lbs 15oz and was 19 inches long! Soo tiny compared to Jett who was 9lbs 4oz and 20.5 inches long! It was such a priceless moment. They laid her on my chest and she had the cutest little cry.

They cleaned her up and gave her back to me to feed her. She did have a few difficulties. When I tried to feed her, she turned purple. It was so scary. I asked the nurse to come back in and she took her back to see what was wrong. Jane turned back to her normal color and they gave her back to me to try feeding again. She turned purple again. They ended up putting a tube down her throat and sooo much fluid came up. She went back to the NICU for a few hours after she was born to run some tests. Everything came back normal and it ended up being that she swallowed so much amniotic fluid which caused her to have difficulty breathing and swallowing.

We transferred to the mother and baby unit and ended up getting the princess suite. Everyone asked how we scored that room and we'd say, "Because we had the princess, of course!" Jett met his baby sister the next morning and it was such a perfect moment! He didn't want to stop holding her. He kept giving her kisses. It was the cutest thing ever.

We got to come home Thursday morning. It was so nice coming home! Jett is still trying to adjust now that we are home, as we all are. Thankfully Isaac has been off the entire week and doesn't have to go back till Thursday. He's been a HUGE help. He usually takes Jett since Jane relies on just me for feedings. Jane is such a good little nurser. She won't take a binky longer than 5-10 minutes until she spits it out and she thinks a bottle is weird. Haha. She rarely cries unless she's hungry. Even with diaper changes, she just lays there and looks around. I have been blessed with such a good baby!

I have the most perfect babies in the entire world. I love my son and daughter more than anything in this world. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for trusting me with these two beautiful children. I couldn't ask for more. They are perfect in every way. :)
